Spice House, 2025-2026

Mural painting in cinnamon, ginger, and anise powders. Family photographs screen-printed on wooden panels in ginger, clove, cinnamon, anise, and white pepper powders.

Visitors enter a house filled with the aroma of blended spices. An enlarged outline of a Chinese landscape is painted in spice powders. Family photographs taken in Shanghai between the 1960s and the 1990s are screen-printed in the same materials and placed at the centre of the space. The spice-printed photographs are activated through a performance in which wooden panels are installed on the wall, excess spices falling, releasing scent and leaving traces.

Spice House, 2026

Mural painting in cinnamon, ginger, and anise powders, acrylic, dimensions variable, installation size: 1756 × 334 cm. Nine family photographs screen-printed in ginger, clove, cinnamon, anise, and white pepper powders on wooden panels.

A spice-scented house contains a drawing of a Shanghai longtang in cinnamon, ginger and anise, alongside spice-covered family photographs. The red acrylic character 拆 (chāi, demolish) marks buildings designated for demolition in China. Here, it links the disappearance of longtang neighbourhoods with family memory and urban transformation.
