Fondue, 2026
Bronze, melted-down Stöckli AG fondue chinoise caquelon and Rüetschi AG bell (gifts from Edith), paraffin, wood, 20 × 208 × 34 cm
Fondue chinoise is a Swiss meat-fondue dish whose name imagines China; it is not a traditional Chinese dish. I melted down a Stöckli caquelon and a Rüetschi Glocke (bell) together with bronze, and recast the resulting alloy as the hollow skins of three fruits: a pomelo, a pomegranate and a mandarin. Each fruit was burnt out of its mould, leaving a cavity into which the alloy was cast. Before being melted down, the caquelon and bell were replicated in paraffin.
